Day 2

Seeing as it’s 9.30pm by the time this is being written, it is probably going to be short.

Want to see what the anglers get up to in the morning?

Dean takes pictures of the sunrise over Hamilton harbour and by 11.20 is losing his fish to a shark.

Hamish and Danny have a cool beverage... no wonder they can’t catch fish... they’re hot by 8am!

Fiona takes a nap but by 10.30 she has had an outfit change and is swinging her bait.

Most teams were home at a reasonable hour with The Three Yahoos in just before 4.30, giving everybody on the dock time to be set up.

Andy caught the biggest blackfin tuna of the day at 31.4lb and another at 21.2lb, with Andrew catching a 22.3 one and Ed releasing a yellowfin and a blackfin.

Reel Lax relaxed coming home and weighed in at 4.50 with 2 blackfin, Danny’s weighed 24.9lb. In all they did manage to get 10 fish.

Philly For Rum were third again, they had a nice number of fish but unfortunately one dolphin decided to take 2 different angler's baits, disqualifying it under IGFA rules. The one that did weigh was right on the 18lb mark caught by Martin. It was then time fo a swizzle from the Gosling’s bar.

We had the BBQ on the dock this evening, or near the dock as we weren’t allowed to bring in on the grass, so set up in the car park. With Ian from Git 'er Done BBQ providing a great spread.

While some anglers started to enjoy the food,

BWAC weighed in their one and only fish for the day a 19.5lb barracuda. Sure you’ll have better luck tomorrow guys.

It was great to see many of the teams come down in their boats this evening and hang out.

BAC may have had a skunk yesterday but today David managed to bring the biggest fish to the dock! A 53.7lb Yellowfin tuna and blackfin release. Mark got an 18.6lb blackfin and Kip also released a blackfin. They figured they were sitting pretty for the day.

Well David was!

Brian finally showed up with Team MP’s fish caught by Dean, who had to do self service to weigh it. At least it was only a 26.4lb blackfin.

Hope MP doesn’t stand for Man Power!

And yes, you guessed it there is still one team left, but they had a valid excuse to be late; they rescued a broken down boat after spotting their distress flare.

Finally at 7.10 they made to the dock.

Some bright spark decided that a joke need to be played and informed Fiona that a protest had been lodged about not being back at the dock on time. She really believed it... until the secret was out... a beer was definitely needed then!

Neil and Cindy found their own way to the bar for a much needed drink before weighing their fish.

Today was ladies day with Cindy getting the Amberjack weighing 46lb and Fiona with the yellowfin at 42.7lb, with 3 other releases this made them top team for the day and top overall after 2 days.

It will be a tight race tomorrow with all teams very close. Good luck to you all and we’ll see you on the dock for the final time.

There will be a list of pictures available on Thursday evening at the dinner for everybody to vote on the best one, so get your shots in to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
